Star Citizen: A Yogi's Perspective

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." – Lao Tzu
Ever feel like you're stuck in a rut? Maybe you yearn for something more, a new horizon to explore? Star Citizen feels like that – a grand adventure, a journey into the vast unknown of space. It’s certainly not a game for beginners (well, not for really beginners). This is for the truly devoted.
What is Star Citizen, anyway?
Star Citizen is a massive space-faring game in development. Think massive, very massive (almost MMO scale!). You fly ships, you build alliances, maybe even encounter friendly aliens – and hopefully there won't be a need to repair damaged ships! A lot of things to experience (and buy!).
Immersion is Key – More Than Just a Game
This isn’t your average shooter or fighter pilot game. This one digs deep – real–time exploration, realistic flight controls (even though we may find them complex).
-
Customization. Lots of it. You craft your space pilot profile and design a stunning personal space ride (for yourself!). My friend [Jake] was truly enthralled by this.
-
World-Building. An impressive achievement to make a whole planet.
-
Complex Narrative. The story unfolds organically. I'm quite certain this one will blow us away.
-
Economy and Trading. Wow, so much to figure out. The real world meets a virtual space. Like what we often see in movies. You own land, you buy ships. (Kind of, in a manner, like real life, except in space!) Buying new stuff! That's pretty important.

Communities, Relationships, Groups of Friends (And Rivals!)

My First Impressions
My first moment of truly wowing sensation…was in my own private ship.
Star Citizen blew me away. I wasn't entirely prepared to take off – maybe some of it is from all the good buzz, too. All the good news.
Questions:
-
Can Star Citizen sustain excitement after the launch date?
-
Are the initial phases worth the wait? (Many reviewers wonder). I ask myself the same!
-
Will I truly experience that amazing feeling they all keep mentioning (like what many video-gamers keep speaking about)?
A Review of the Graphics
People claim the graphics are very good! My opinion: Pretty dang good, especially given it's a work in progress.
-
Spaceships: Stunning details. You can truly spend ages marveling at them. This is true even with simple ships, too.
-
Planets: Impressively complex. They remind me of looking out the window.
-
Space Environments: Amazing details (for such an expansive place!). They are the real life universe!
Some Reviews

"Wow, just amazing. I want a ticket, I want it NOW." – Friend (Ethan)
"Visually striking. Definitely more detail than I expected" – Another Friend (Maria).
"Still rough around the edges" – One harsh critic

-
Flight Controls: Can take getting used to, with new ships too. My experience felt quite different each time. Different feels and settings, for various flights. You can master them, too.
-
Combat: Engaging and chaotic. A very nice, unique challenge.
-
Space Trading: Requires strategic thinking. You get good if you've got time, experience! Like it, and the real-world approach to dealing and pricing.
Some Criticisms
(And yes, some of these can also be reasons why I’d say you really need patience to start with this!)
-
Grinding: some repetitive actions (they say). Yes, I suppose…but at the end, one knows the experience was unique, very meaningful.
-
Pacing: Some may feel like waiting for a large game. Time…this one will truly take you to new heights, but it does not deliver quickly. You must be patient, willing.

Is It Worth The Price?
This, I'll admit, is a question everyone should ask themselves!
The short answer: It is very likely yes, (especially considering some reviews are truly good), provided your interest matches. If Star Citizen is your interest, then, yes. (Most certainly!).
Conclusion
Star Citizen presents a unique challenge, one that requires dedication and patience – that, I truly feel, makes this an especially memorable adventure. (Some might call it worth their time). This grand experience truly deserves to be played, in the manner most believe it should, to have truly known how good it feels to experience all its amazing potential (a grand experience, too). It will be amazing, indeed!
(And of course, it could possibly lead to unforgettable memories). Just ask my friends. A truly fulfilling, long, enjoyable gaming experience.
