Star Citizen Orgs: A Deep Dive into the Starship Community
"The best things in life are free" (or, maybe not so free) but maybe valuable nonetheless!
Star Citizen, that gorgeous and enormous space simulation game, has got one major selling point that pulls players in – communities! There's a crazy cool environment and so many orgs.
Let's find out how these groups shape the experience, from cool concepts to the real-world human behind the spaceship.
What is a Star Citizen Org?
An org, simply put, is like a club in Star Citizen. Members work together, maybe on different fleets and tasks. Some orgs run a social space, other run specific missions, or just hang around together. Think of your favorite video game group of friends – but in space!
Types of Orgs: (Different flavours of the community experience!)
Source: starcitizen.tools
- Social Orgs: Hang out and socialize, make new friends
- Military Orgs: Combat, fleet battles and challenges, intense orgs
- Exploration Orgs: Going far and wide in space for knowledge
- Trading Orgs: Buying and selling goods, building empires
- Combat Orgs: Mainly war focused, competitive engagements
Joining an Org – How to Get Started
Finding the right org is super important!
Consider these factors:
- Your playing style (social, or very competitive?), what is important in your playing style?
- Your schedule – does it need specific commitment levels, in the space, and not space?
- The goals of the orgs (war, or hanging out?, trade, etc).
- Find reviews (this is very helpful).
Asking experienced players or reading reviews are very valuable, and also looking into the requirements and level!
Some groups may require you to already have a spaceship and specific skills!

These orgs offer more than just a group to hang out in!
Sense of Community
You build trust with these players, and even help each other (something I really enjoy), to complete complex tasks. This bonding is huge.
Real-World Connection

Many of the most active players actually use the forums and social platforms provided, and you meet real players and build relationships! They hang out outside the game too. This isn't just a digital group!
Enhanced Gaming Experience (or perhaps reduced?)
A group provides support in game (and I've helped some in different circumstances). You'll find you and your team overcome tougher situations.
Creating Your Own Universe
Orgs are opportunities to shape the game and become part of a unique narrative! Maybe run a company, exploration or a crew!
Finding the Perfect Org for YOU! (Crucial points!)
Important: Find out your preferences about the orgs! Read about some from various people – what players think of the orgs
Questions to ask when choosing a Star Citizen Org
- What's the orgs main goal?
- How frequently is the activity, and is there an schedule you are okay with, in terms of times you can commit to it?
- What are their requirements?
- What kind of experiences can I have and who is in the group – does this really excite me?, also is this orgs goal exciting?
- Check for any bad reviews (don't ignore, don't be reckless).
- What is your relationship-based play, in the game? (Some need very dedicated people, others have a less focused social experience).
- Read feedback on previous members. Are the majority very positive? or mostly complaining? You might just need to do that – look at who people trust – find people you like to speak with and form relationships in game.

The Challenges of Orgs (Don't let them discourage you)
These experiences happen, they don't really matter
-
Communication problems – if the members are hard to communicate with then the experience can decrease
-
Disagreements (Happens to me!) This is always part of teamwork, this will only work if they are very active and communicative)
-
Changes in game mechanics
These groups do matter for gaming because they help you accomplish more!
Personal Review – (From the heart of this writer).
As an observer, my experience with certain groups in games has been very beneficial. I value these kinds of opportunities a lot and would look for other examples in a game like this (they create something bigger)
Example: Joining an exploration team:
I joined an exploration team and was assigned specific targets – (learning how to be better at this game in general!). The challenge level of working with strangers who are so good was tough but the sense of accomplishment made everything worth it!
I learned a lot (and helped to teach!) through them and they supported my skills in exploring different areas in the game.
The Verdict
Star Citizen orgs, they do more than simply providing structure or tasks – it helps people from a world of experiences with others, it bonds players. It creates more space!
Further Exploration (things to consider when you check into your own adventure!)
-
What other people say about orgs and how it influences them. (Their feedback might help make it an even more better choice!)
-
Consider all the experiences in games and outside gaming. This may influence choices, this writer noticed from all her playstyle in this, and general playing experiences from many types of games, orgs and groups)
Remember: the space to form new orgs, or teams can increase the value of the gameplay experience. Always take a cautious view and form a relationship before getting invested. Orgs increase the enjoyment! Find a friend in these communities that play games that resonate with you and you have something really valuable!
