Star Citizen: A Deep Dive into the Universe of Jobs
Source: scfocus.org
"Space, the final frontier… What's the job market look like there?" – That was my first thought when I learned about Star Citizen. It's a fascinating universe. It is full of opportunities and maybe I should apply for one or two jobs if possible, haha.
What is Star Citizen?
Star Citizen is an incredibly ambitious space sim video game (this term, according to other players, has pretty neat ideas inside), it's aiming to recreate whole spaceships, star systems and pretty much the entire space experience into one beautiful picture.
A Massive Game?
(Some players say that you might think it's like an MMO but no…it feels more focused, almost like having multiple, standalone games put together). Many people spend time trying to figure it all out! It is impressive when you learn about the sheer scale of the whole project!

Jobs Aboard Spaceships:
From what I gather from browsing various resources, it seems like finding a decent gig in Star Citizen can be pretty important if you plan to explore (you will also need a ship though!) this massive virtual cosmos.
Pilots: Navigating the Stars
- Fly commercial and personal transport ships.
- Escort cargo shipments, be an astronaut or even rescue lost pilots!
- Explore unexplored space systems, map galaxies or collect rare minerals and bring back data.
- Deliver critical cargo.
(Pilot job reviews are all mixed…some think it is quite simple… others feel very complex…)
Engineers: Repairing the Spaceships
- Maintain spaceship machinery (essential role indeed…).
- Fix parts and engines that are damaged during travel, like my spaceship sometimes is damaged… (haha…)
- Repair or modify weaponry and defense systems.
(Engineers usually do not just sit at home! They actively work with the space tech).
Traders: Negotiating and Commerce
- Discover new markets, maybe even create one.
- Find ways to move commodities from different space ports/planets, bringing and bringing out all kinds of materials.
- Calculate deals that can make the spaceship travel worth while. (I think many space trader roles may be essential in exploring different locations.)
- Buying and selling space items – cool right?
(Trading in Star Citizen seems like the main part that makes money!).
Scientists: Unveiling Cosmic Mysteries
- Conduct research on alien species and strange materials
- Document any information of cosmic events around the ship
- Explore new technologies… I mean that sounds like cool job indeed!
Security Personnel: Maintaining Peace (kind of)
- Investigate spaceship threats. (maybe they should investigate for criminals who commit crime…this is a possible scenario!)
- Protect space travelers and merchants against pirates. (some think security is just too hard but in general… pretty good!).
Specific Jobs in the Star Citizen Universe:
The Star Citizen universe feels alive. It's full of details! Each spaceship has roles, but it is hard to see all the different jobs you can pick without playing it in the game. I've come across a lot of different ship descriptions… Some spaceships are geared toward fighting, some for hauling and some are more scientific types…
Types of Ships and Their Needed Crew
- Cargo freighters (for logistics/materials): These need cargo handlers, captains, possibly engineers… or perhaps an engineer, mechanic, captain to manage shipments, and people who sort/package/receive packages from shipments… that's something important to be a trader!
- Military transports: A more aggressive way of travel… or travel. More experienced players recommend experienced and trained members with weapons (and space tech!).
Ship Careers?
(Different people have various thoughts, or reviews) Some feel very motivated in the careers aspect that can offer an extensive journey! It really is just incredible what the makers have made… many see this like real career role. Other feel like its lacking. That's good in a way! Different groups or categories to pick…
More about Ship Careers and Jobs

(It seems more about being part of a spaceship instead of doing an individual thing.) Many believe that finding more experience in Star Citizen is important! I am gathering info from all these resources from everywhere! This info seems reliable. Different people have varied stories about doing this or trying this. This one is an extensive space project with many types of job details (including spaceship maintenance, and even spaceship transport – to name a few!).
Comparing Different Job Types

A Player's View of Careers: What Others Say:
- "The job variety is massive!" – A veteran Star Citizen player, praising the career flexibility! (From an online post).
- "Being able to experience more than one career aspect is awesome, maybe it gives you an option of something new!" (A regular user.)
- "It feels a bit unreal compared to traditional jobs. (Sometimes a challenge!)." – (Online forum user, comment on their own gameplay experience.)
- "Be sure to manage the finances appropriately!"- Another helpful space gamer review (from in-game help forum posts.)

Final Thoughts (my thoughts):
Star Citizen is clearly a highly detailed universe and a highly realistic simulated experience. It feels both complex and approachable… There's a real feeling that there's an entire space industry just waiting to be built, perhaps just waiting to start recruiting people! I will check the role requirements if I ever sign up! If I need money from a career this will come helpful. (I think this will help in the career if anyone gets jobs!).
The massive game universe offers plenty of different ways to earn in-game income (or more currency), depending on what kind of character or background your space role offers (whether its spaceship roles, individual jobs and many more aspects)! All I need now is the right spaceship! Exploring this galaxy's workforce offers endless choices! The amount of potential is mind-blowing (and inspiring)!
