What is Star Citizen?
Source: gamersbynight.com
Star Citizen is a massive, persistent online game, and basically, a (space sim/action role-playing). Think space-faring role-play like you see in the movies and add your own personalized experience to it!
Core Gameplay
- Exploration of countless planets, moons, and stars.
- Dogfights with cool weapons, shooting each other with a spaceship's gun!
- Trading for valuable goods, getting items/profits for trades.
- Joining organizations and going on missions for these orgs (like the Pirates!).
- Building your character and their history through unique interactions and story events!
- Making decisions that shape your experience and influence your place in this game, just like life.
The Universe is Immense!
Star Citizen presents players with a truly colossal and evolving space for adventure. This game feels really open, allowing you to go almost everywhere. Planets, spaceships, systems…they have plenty. There are really a lot! The developers (Cloud Imperium) really spent the effort creating an immersive experience that can make one feel like their part of something unique, kind of a feeling I don't see in many games like this one!
Worlds & Landscapes
The varied terrain in these game worlds are truly amazing! Mountains, jungles, rocky areas (lots to see), all different. There are tons of details to appreciate in every aspect. "Wow! Look at that view" I always feel like exclaiming when exploring! It's all so beautiful. (this really got me hooked)
Spaceships
(Lots of choices!) Spaceships vary widely. From personal runabouts to huge, heavily armored warships. Customization is possible, changing things and tailoring the ship's appearance. It really let's your identity shine through!
Storylines and Missions
(Plenty of missions available) A cool aspect is the freedom in exploration, allowing players to find their own missions! A huge amount of freedom that I truly feel is very innovative in gaming. But, also a lack of strong direction or plot! I recommend knowing the overall storyline to actually make the most of what they offer in the overall quest to explore and grow within this universe, rather than playing by luck!
Building Your Character
This game truly offers you the power to be whoever you want!
Free Movement, Freedom of Choices, Exploration, Quests

So, you create a pilot, they do missions for whatever org they've joined, and so on.
Organization Involvement
Lots of different groups, and you can team up to make missions happen and make discoveries or even protect people or places that you all decide.
The Community Experience
Star Citizen's player-base isn't huge compared to other games, (and some argue it is small for such an expansive title, so this might put you off playing.) Many in this community seem loyal though.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Star Citizen and Star Wars?
Source: cgames.de
Star Citizen doesn't exactly try to re-create Star Wars, instead it sets a tone inspired by sci-fi franchises to create this cool new universe! (no clear Star Wars-inspired similarities)
How much is the game?
The game isn't "finished" or available yet (2024 still early!) and a big ongoing question (or debate) in the forums among many players and others.
Is it worth waiting?
A hard question! Whether you are patient and whether it seems interesting is the deciding factor for most players. Some reviewers say this title is just a lot of work that isn't that engaging.
In Conclusion
Star Citizen is definitely a massive project with huge goals. It will need to stay interesting and grow to stay compelling to many. From a (current perspective,) one can easily see a significant work invested into what might (at times) look a very complicated project. There are clearly many choices, missions, interactions and many places and things for one to do; a big project like this! Is it right for you?
(Think about your play style, are you open to lots of freedom/choices? How long would you stick around playing? Would it help if this was all developed before you can play the full game? A decision for every gamer!
(P.S. Don't take other's reviews too seriously, have a personal feeling about what's interesting or not!).
