Star Citizen: A Space Odyssey of Upscaling
"The future is now, if you build it." – Star Citizen's vision seems to mirror this quote. This game, like many others, is a beautiful mix of promises, challenges, and a whole lot of hopeful anticipation. Let's dive in, see how the scaling unfolds, and whether or not this ship is actually heading in the right direction.
Graphics, a Picture of the Future (or Not?)

Current Visuals
Source: redd.it
- Star Citizen graphics have a lot of potential.
- Early builds felt like space-bound dioramas (very carefully created models but lacking in 'flow')
- The beauty is impressive, from planets to stars, but not always smooth.
- Character models could look a bit like clay figures, while others feel perfectly polished and sophisticated

Upscaling Tech, Moving the Visual Feast
- Some updates really make you exclaim: Wow!
- This improvement looks astonishing.
- Other times you may question – where are we, what’s the situation here.
- Upscaling seems uneven in quality.
A Quick Summary Table
<table>
Gameplay – Where the Action is
Exploring the Unknown
- The gameplay involves a good mixture of action and exploration.
- Star Citizen brings you to an immense scale.
- This expansive experience lets you move around with great freedom.
My Experiences
I've been exploring the different planets for hours. Sometimes you find a new planet with astonishing landscape; another time you are fighting your way in dangerous territory! Exploring in the void can sometimes feel disorientating, because it is not always intuitive, but that too could be because we have only some small parts revealed so far. (The freedom in gameplay makes it very impressive for me).
Missions and Quests – Tasks to Complete
- Mission systems offer diverse goals, but it is confusing on how to proceed to achieve.
- I think missions need more guidance on certain aspects.

The players' interactions feel like you are really part of an active virtual society and space colony. (They did good work there!)
There are different spaceships which let you customize it too which is awesome (They need better communication and integration though.).
Tech and Engine Updates
Engine Overviews
- The engine’s power is amazing. (it feels powerful when you are experiencing the whole scene!).
- But not yet optimized perfectly, yet!
- Sometimes lag exists, or minor issues could crop up while moving on a certain area.
Updates – The Constant Progression
- A series of great additions & updates which are improving all aspects
- It takes consistent efforts to enhance different sections for the user’s experience.
(Constant improvements are important! That shows progress!)
Economic Aspects
The Market – How the Trade Works (and how to deal with it?)
- A deep economy plays a central role in the gameplay (and makes sense for the theme too!)
- Players will make transactions, purchases, etc., but this is not intuitive for many beginners
(The economy has some room to improve in communication & user interfaces for sure).
Questions & Answers
Technical Improvements & Quality
- Are upscaling issues being properly addressed by developers?
- How do they fix issues like strange looking planets and inconsistent character modelling? (Some improvement to this problem has occurred already).
The Game Design’s Direction
- Will the story progress, characters, or mission systems increase gradually in intricacy or quality as players play and explore?
What is their goal?
- To me, they should maintain balance between massive visuals & detailed environment with efficient smooth gameplay
Community and Engagement
- Is there good communication & coordination among players for efficient exchange of information in the space (and outside)?
- I see the amount of work on this project is considerable, they seem like dedicated team. (I hope that helps).
Future Visions and Conclusion
-
A highly polished experience will hopefully result if improvements to technical issues happen more.
-
Potential exists to improve storytelling & expand immersion.
Star Citizen, despite its technical imperfections and uneven upscaling, presents a fascinating, dynamic experience that suggests an ultimate reward through hard work (of the developer's and the users!).
(Some have predicted that it might take several years for this project to reach a completed state) (Many more years than expected!) but we can appreciate the massive undertaking it all represents.
