Star Citizen: A Pilot's Perspective (and Some Other Passengers' Too!)
Star Citizen. The name itself hums with promise, a whisper of vast spaceships and daring adventures. I've been spending time in this game, feeling like a kid with a brand-new Lego set – amazed by every piece. But, it's much, much more complex than LEGOs. Is it worth the hype, and how does it truly perform? Let's dive in.
A Glimpse at the Galaxy: What is Star Citizen?
Source: redd.it
Star Citizen isn't just a game; it's a massive online universe under development. Players explore, pilot ships, and complete missions, sometimes feeling more like space explorers than mere gamers. Many gamers call it a truly open world (no borders or restrictions!) (Imagine an enormous online sandbox).
The "Future" of Online Gaming:
- Huge, dynamic planets and star systems.
- Amazing ships of all sizes, from sleek fighters to gargantuan space stations.
- Complex economies (money makes things possible.)
- Different people with different opinions/thoughts.
What Sets Star Citizen Apart?
This game takes the idea of gaming universes beyond simply building houses or making games (this goes deeper!), adding storylines, interactive experiences and huge player-to-player interactions (lots of other players involved.) This is really unique!

FPS Performance: The Crucial Factor
How does the game perform, and most importantly, how many frames per second (FPS) can we expect to see?
Graphics: A Visual Treat, Sometimes a Challenge:
- Stunning visuals, some gamers will agree, especially the ships. So cool.
- However, high graphics often mean higher system demands and lower FPS. (like having too many friends online.)
- This leads to significant FPS issues when we run at high graphics.
System Requirements: An important check!

These systems impact FPS more than you would think, gamers sometimes struggle a lot in FPS to get satisfactory output.
Is FPS a Big Deal?
Many think it's the crucial deciding point! If the game doesn't perform well (i.e. lots of FPS drop) and the system needs huge improvements or expensive upgrades to perform at all (think really, really powerful computer) you might not have a great experience.
Other Reviews and What Gamers Say:
What do others say? One popular comment about Star Citizen stated that "It’s still an experience that’s far from the same as other online games… It has a special aura about it…" Another review pointed to, “Impressive spaceships” but still mentioning “It sometimes glitches.”
Different player reviews reflect different experience, gamers find issues within their gaming computers, or just don’t get the FPS needed. Some also complain of loading times… This is a big factor for playing, isn’t it!
Factors Influencing FPS:

- Graphics settings (lower or higher graphics levels greatly effect fps.)
- Number of players online (many players equals higher demands)
- Hardware/equipment quality (powerful systems deliver great results in most cases.)
My Personal Experience (and Lessons Learned)
Source: neowin.com
My first time playing the game had me overwhelmed, like exploring a huge city and needing a map for that place. Finding missions, docking in and moving around (flying the spaceship). The variety of missions/quests I started (many kinds!) and the vast options of exploring the systems…all make for unique gaming situations that other games do not really offer.
My early experiences provided some frustration. There were plenty of loading times, and a struggle to get the ideal FPS. There are also quite a few bugs and areas to explore… which add quite a lot of complexity, both technical and personal (a really hard game!), if you ask me.
Despite these minor setbacks, however, the immense potential of the universe and ship designs kept me coming back. This is impressive, definitely impressive.
Overall, is Star Citizen worth the wait (or even effort) ?
It depends on the goals of the player… If you really love big space experiences, like huge exploration in an infinite virtual space… and aren't overly bothered by sometimes frustrating and less-than-ideal performances and loading, I’d say definitely look into it! If you want a well-rounded game where the visual beauty/style are the number one item, it is really up to the game in the particular situations, and the player’s desire or attitude in handling issues if it is indeed not very pleasing to the eye. It also greatly relies on your system performance and patience as well.
Star Citizen has undoubtedly impressed me (but this is just me), showcasing stunning detail, but the variable (changing, non constant) frame rates also keep me cautious (though in different cases…). This huge online world, filled with diverse aspects, still has a long way to go (but we will enjoy watching its evolution).
(Consider checking player reviews to see if any matches your hardware.)
